Item description
Approved by USFWS (Fish & Wildlife) sustainably sourced and legally obtained.
This intriguing specimen is that of an Albino African Clawed Frog. Its scientific name is Xenopus Laevis. The males grow to a length of about 2 to 2.5 inches long while the females are much larger at up to 4.5 inches long. These frogs are native to east and southern African. They are now considered an extremely invasive species and can be found in freshwater areas all over the world, including the United States.
African clawed frog are almost fully aquatic and typically only leave the water to go to another body of water for mating. Although the males do not have vocal cords, they can still produce a clicking noise to attract females.
Preserved and encased in a crystal clear lucite, this Clawed Frog can now be studied in intricate detail without promoting the breeding and sale of this species. It makes for a wonderful piece for Herpetological study or simply a unique specimen to add to any nature collection.
Resin block measures approx. 2 7/8 inches tall by 1 5/8 inches wide. As with all natural specimens, positioning, coloration and especially size (some of this specimens can be tiny) can vary.
