Item description
This vintage German wedding cup, also known as a Wager cup, is a dual cup designed in the likeness of a female figure adorned in a bell-shaped gown, with a second cup suspended above her head.
Legend holds that in the 1700s, a nobleman in Germany sought to secure a bride for his daughter, who had rejected wealthy suitors in favor of a goldsmith. To test the goldsmith’s skill and commitment, the nobleman demanded he craft a unique bridal cup: one that could be shared by two without spilling a drop. The ingenious goldsmith fashioned a silver figure of the girl with a hollow skirt for drinking and small swinging cups held by her raised arms.
This masterpiece, known as the two-part bridal cup, symbolizes love, faithfulness, and fortune for the couple who shares from it.
Measures a little over approx. 7 Inches tall.
