Post-mortem photography is the practice of photographing the recently deceased. These photographs were a normal part of American and European culture in the nineteenth century. Postmortem photographs helped in grieving and often represented the only visual remembrance of the deceased and were among a family’s most precious possessions.
Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish the difference between a regular portrait and a post-mortem portrait. Not only that, but there are a lot of fakes and reproductions out there.
This is a Real Post-mortem photo of a baby in a crib. RARE, due to the fact that it is hand colored from the time period and the excellent condition of the photo.
Photo comes with a perfectly fitted frame. Photo is approx. 4 1/2 inches X 2 1/2 inches. There are No Returns on this item due to the risk of damage and reproduction.
